| If you weren’t at the Hobbies day then you missed a really good day, it was a real eye opener, in more ways than one. Jean Cosser came out from under her shell and talked for more than an hour about her hobbies, which included spinning and knitting wool, botanical art and Pyrography. She was literally thrown in at the deep end with no time in advance to prepare but she kept everyone interested with plenty of audience participation, very well done. |

Charlie Walker gave us an excellent introduction into tracing our family history. He has obviously spent many happy hours on his computer researching not only his family but also those of friends as well. Some of the charts he presented were many feet long and very complicated, it was very interesting and made me think I should start working on my family history. Pete Wheeler talked about the many thinks he makes and sells, ranging from wooden puzzles and games to marquetry work on boxes as well as pictures. Some of his puzzles involved glass bottles with seemingly impossible nut and bolts assembled inside using “ship in a bottle” techniques.

Moira and Tony Powell had a display of mainly woodturning items of a very high standard and Moira brought along some of the smaller members of her rocking horse family of which she has made many. Ian Curtiss talked about his acrylic painting although I missed most of it because I was on the phone (sorry Ian) and the day was rounded off by Gill Thomson who talked about her craft items which she sells under the name of “Wood Workouts”. All our members did really well as it was a somewhat unscripted day that ended up being one of our best in my opinion. |
