The Hants & Dorset Stickmakers held their annual Stick Show on Sunday 3rd of April 2011 at Woodlands Village hall. We managed to coincide with "Mothering Sunday" this year and attendance was down slightly with 94 sticks being entered into 10 different classes. This year there was no entry fee again and although the numbers were down we had some good quality work with plenty of variety, with all classes being well represented. The judge this year was our very own Charlie Walker, who was kept well out of the way whilst the members booked in their sticks. Charlie has attended many BSG shows over the last few years and has obviously picked up the judges ways, he did a superb job for us in a relaxed and very friendly way, discussing his findings afterwards.

David Partridge, our local coppice worker and hurdle maker, was kind enough to come along with a truck load of shanks for sale including some twisties. I think most people took a bundle home so I hope it was worth his while coming. It kept people amused whilst the judging was taking place.

2011 Show Results

This was our fifth annual Stick Show and although not the best as far as numbers were concerned, I think everyone enjoyed the day, especially the cakes at lunchtime provided by Peter’s wife Wendy. The classes this year were explained more fully in a separate document by Charlie Walker and this helped keep the confusion to a minimum.
