John Jones has moved from Mottisfont Abbey at Romsey, to his new premises in Prospect Road, Alresford, where he produces a wide range of timber products, from high quality garden furniture to farm gates and windows. John can be seen throughout the summer at many of the country shows, including Netley Marsh steam rally, where I met him in 2009. John welcomed the Stickmakers on a cold Sunday morning with cups of coffee and a wood burning stove. The newly acquired "Woodmiser" was first on the agenda, demonstrated by John and Gary, it soon made short work of a yew log, turning it into beautiful planks. After this we had a guided tour of the workshop with demonstrations of most of the machinery. After the customary pub lunch at the Swan inn we returned to John's yard to purchase some carefully selected treasures from the wood store. John keeps most native timbers and is happy to sell to Woodcarvers and Woodturners, it's best to make an appointment because John is often in the woods felling timber, Saturdays are usually OK. Thanks to John Jones, proprietor- Timber Mill |
